Widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading human rights lawyers, Jessica Simor has represented parties in numerous human rights cases before domestic and international courts, was formerly a lawyer in the European Court of Human Rights, as well as legal adviser to the Human Rights Ombudsman in Bosnia and Herzogovina.

In 2016 Simor was nominated by the UK to be a Judge in the European Court of Human Rights.  She is the author and current editor of  ‘Human Rights Practice’ (Sweet and Maxwell).  Her clients include not only victims of human rights abuses, but also governments, NGOs and corporations.  Her work extends to regulatory, data protection and competition law issues, with a particular expertise in EU law. She was lead counsel to the second claimant in the recent Brexit litigation (Miller) in the UK. 

Her interest in the law derived from her studies in geography and environmental sciences, being concerned with necessary policy responses including to social and justice issues.   She is a founding member of Matrix chambers.
